The extrusion density of Kynar PVDF and Kynar Flex PVDF materials can now be reduced to 80%. Bixby International, a manufacturer of customized films and sheets for high-performance polymers, has announced its cooperation with Arkema to produce closed cell, low-density Kynar PVDF films. Bixby can provide PVDF films and sheets with thickness ranging from 0.005 inch to 0.250 inch and width ranging from 72 inch. The finished product can be a single sheet or a continuous roll.

This technology can be applied to almost any commercial grade of Kynar PVDF, including flame retardant, pigment or fiber reinforcement grade.

Kynar PVDF's UL RTI (Relative Temperature Index) is rated for temperatures up to 150 ° C and is resistant to chemicals and ultraviolet rays. Bixby said that the use of density reduction technology to extrude this thermoplastic polymer can provide several potential functions that traditional extruded PVDF materials do not have, and the cost is lower. In addition, Kynar PVDF with higher rigidity can be produced to improve its flexibility.

Low density materials are easy to cut even in thicker parts. Low density materials can also reduce the thermal conductivity, and the polymer can be made into a floating structure with a density far below 1g/cc. The Kynar PVDF shell at the top and bottom can be extruded on either side of the foam core to produce the desired color and aesthetic characteristics.

All these new capabilities of low density PVDF can be realized without losing the key characteristics of materials, and can be applied to products exposed to chemicals, flame retardant composites, gaskets, seals, pond gaskets, tapes and light component products.
